THE FIRST VOCAL RELEASE ON DON'T BITE RECORDS FROM TOM DICE - SEVEN INCH (7") - 2012 Update

Tom Dice returns with another powerhouse performance on the controversially entitled A side "Thug Killer". Again on a slamming limited edition 7 inch.    Tired of played out thug clichés and M.Cs with a limited vocabulary, Dice returns with Dynametrix legend, The Phantom, to adopt ironic vigilante personas; "I'm not a thug that kills I'm a killer of thugs with skills" over a ridiculously rugged beat.

On Side B Tom Dice flips an American popular culture classic in an unexpected boom bap manner, simultaneously rhyming and singing in an off kilter manner reminiscent of Biz Markie, ODB and Grand Puba whist slickly inserting more serious social commentary.  Unbelievably it was recorded in one take with no overdubs or drop ins, indicating further Dice's technical virtuosity as an M.C. There will again only be 100 of these 7s so get them fast before they disappear.

They describe both literally and figuratively, MCs falling off. They are tired of iconic MCs saying on their next LP that they will return to their underground roots and then bring out another mainstream LP with lazy rhymes.  On the B side Tom Dice uses rappers names as adjectives to describe himself over an up-tempo beat impossible for any self-respecting b boy to ignore.

Listen to: YOUR NAME DESCRIBES ME

Tom Dice returns with two stripped down, raw to the bone bangers. The A side, 'Falling Off', features Jumpsteady who made his musical debut in 1994 on the track 'Crack the Mic', from the Dynametrix LP 'A Measure Of Force'. Jumpsteady also appeared on the Unsung Heroes LP tracks, 'The path is narrow' and 'Divine gifts' with The Phantom as part of the Visitors crew (alongside Tom Dice). Over a sinister jazz fusion drum break, Jumpsteady and Tom Dice lament a lack of authentic investment in contemporary hip hop from many of their heroes.
As Tom Dice says himself 'you need Special Ed and a Q-tip so you can hear and understand every rhyme that I rip' as he artfully constructs his rhymes from MCs names. The last 7 inch sold out in 2 days so mind out that you don't miss out on this lyrical bomb! There will only be 150 copies pressed up worldwide.
'Tears Run Dry' (Side B) relives frustrations of the 90's in trying to survive and produce underground music.  'Only the Beginning' has already been likened to a missing track off Main Source's classic 'Breaking Atoms' LP.
Don't Bite Records has only pressed up 100 hand numbered vinyl.
So be very quick if you want one...!
He has collaborated with James Bond/Independence day film scorer David Arnold as well as producing the LP "The Anomaly" for the Phantom of Dynametrix. He has been a long time collaborator with MC Jumpsteady as part of the duo The Visitors. He has recently been a DJ with the Zulu Nation UK at the request of its leader, Echo, whom he has known since the eighties.
He champions the use of original, unused samples and a return to the East Coast aesthetic of lyricism and beats you can feel.  His intention with this EP was to release some underground flavours open & simple enough for an MC to be inspired and expose samples that have not been discovered yet.
The four tracks were taken from the LP "Off Beat Percussion" which was produced at the suggestion of DJ Semtex  of 1xtra -  who said it would be a good way to display his versatility in production styles.
FIRST DON'T BITE RECORDS LONG PLAYER RELEASE FROM THE PHANTOM - (LP VINYL) - November 2014 Update
The Phantom is older than you think, both figuratively and literally. His debut on vinyl was on "It's my mike" by the funky force 2 back in 1987 on Amanda Records. In 1988 he recorded as part of the group The Force and recorded "the mission" with the producer Powercut. He is probably best known for being one of the main MC'S in cult group Dynametrix, who released an EP in 1991 and an LP in 1994 called "A measure of force" on Kold Sweat Records. He also appeared on three tracks on the Unsung Heroes LP" Unleashed" as well as appearing with Tom Dice on "Thug Killer".

This 9 track LP begins with" I'm Blazin'" a black exploitation soundscape, which upon close listening has a looped dialect in the background. A creative envelope pusher! The tales of the crypt are brought to life on the dark foreboding menace of "walking nightmare" whilst The Phantom patents a back and forth, new style, on "Missile in Reverse". This lyric was first debuted on the 279 rap show when he appeared alongside his friend, Principal Mark of the Prime Rhyme Masters in 1993. On "2, 1 2, 1" The Phantom is joined by Tom Dice on some freestyle telepathy tip that could never have been pre-written. This was found on a DAT session from 1997 where 1 mike was passed back and forth.
From a live battle victory against Uncle B nice in the iconic club Dingwalls, to an underground dispute with the famous Hijack, The Phantom always holds his own. It would be a mistake, however, to confuse his lyrical ferocity for physical violence: hence the title "The Art of Fighting without Fighting" as quoted by Bruce Lee; a reminder that hip-hop can offer us opportunities away from violence and predictable stereotype: To fight without fighting!
